Booth Babes = Unqualified Leads

Are there any metrics associated with using booth babes (models) to help attract customers to your booth? What are some of the best sources for finding the right look?

Eye Candy for some is not Eye Candy for others… At some trade shows a giant V12 engine on a turntable will cause people to bump into each other as they walk past it.

Anything that stops people in the aisle and gives your fully-trained booth staff time to convert them into qualified prospects is a great idea. But you have to provide a process to reward the right prospects and shun the rest.

The before and especially the “right after show” communication needs to convert the best prospects into a sales cycle activity. Drop 10,000 prospects into the top and out of the bottom comes 500 or so qualified leads.

Like anything else in life, attraction happens in an instant… it’s what you do next that will ensure it was good for everyone!

All staff members in a trade show exhibit need to be properly trained to do the work before them.
Models are only a good idea if they are part of a product display and should not be allowed to speak.
If you need to take care of your customers, Actresses and Actors are an excellent choice.

1.They cannot run off with their best customers,
2.they show up on time and
3.they do not treat attendees poorly if they are not in their sales territory.

A great way to find good people to deliver your message is to seek out professionals that have ear-prompter skills. This is a difficult skill and shows you that the person being considered cares about their career.

I would always recommend hostesses / greeters and rehearse them thoroughly. It is a minimal expense to guarantee every attendee has the same experience.
Train your staff, too. Most trade show failures can be traced back to the staff working the booth. Any international booth workers should be trained in trade show behavior.

Pragati Maidan in dilemma over Common Wealth Games

India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) has rejected a plea by Prasar Bharti on behalf of Common Wealth Games Federation to advance the handing over of Pragati Maidan precincts by three months next year.

At least 20 International Fairs are scheduled to be held at Pragati Maidan between January and March 2010, including annual trade fairs such as the Auto Expo 2010, International Book Fair and Defence Expo.

ITPO has written to Prasar Bharti in a letter, that it would not be possible to advance the date as that would result in non compliance of contractual obligations and create legal hassles.

“ We will lose out on revenue from our long standing customers,' said Safdar Khan, Senior General Manager, ITPO. The biennial Auto Expo, for example, is the only international level fair for the automotive industry int he country and is one of the biggest money spinners for ITPO.

During last year's Auto Expo in January which saw the high profile unveiling of Tata Nano, a record 1.8 million visitors and generated business of over Rs 20,000 crore for the industry.

Although the Common Wealth Games Secretariat has booked five of the 19 exhibition halls at Pragati Maidan, “ it would take at least 50 per cent of our operational space”, sad Safdar Khan.

The ITPO has ruled out shifting of it's regular trade fairs during Common Wealth Games from Pragati Maidan to either Greater Noida or a Delhi suburb near Airport, stating “ all over the wolrd exhibitions are held in down towns”.

Tokyo Motor Show 2009 Coverage

The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show has released its secrets, and the Motor Authority crew has covered all the latest from the Japanese capital.

Sadly, the once popular event hasn’t been able escape the effects of the industry doom and gloom, with most major foreign automakers shunning the show this year. But despite the downsizing, there was still plenty of excitement thanks to some high-profile world debuts from the major Japanese brands.

As always, the Tokyo Motor Show played its role as an open invitation for the world's automakers to study each other's latest moves. Particularly for green-car enthusiasts, this year's Tokyo event is a fertile ground for hybrid and electric-car concepts.

It's not all over yet, though, so stay tuned for any new cars, concepts or details that may break from the show floor.

Audi R8 Clubsport Coming Soon

Much has been said about Audi’s sports car, the R8. Right from the beginning of the year, there were rumors about a cabriolet and an electric version. Both of these were unveiled last week at the motor show in Frankfurt. It seems that the German firm has more versions coming up.

British Web site Autocar reports that Audi could be working on a R8 Clubsport version. Spy images of this hardcore version of the sports car have emerged. Besides small aero blades at the front and a fixed rear wing, they also point to an expansively modified bodywork at the rear. It, apparently, will have a stripped-out cabin as well as lighter and more dynamic rear-wheel drive setup
The Audi R8 Clubsport is expected to be powered by a 518bhp R8 V10. As for the top speed, it apparently is 200mph and does 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds. There is no word on the release date but the car is expected to be out by Q1 2010. There are speculations that it would be unveiled in November this year at the Essen Motor Show in Germany.

Who will get the Gold?

Every January the winter-wonderland of sports is celebrated in style. For twelve years the EPSN sponsored 2010 Winter X Games have been heating things up with super pipe snowboarding, pumped up live-music, tons of promotional giveaway sand talent galore.
After slicing down steep slopes and rocking out to popular bands, boarders, their sponsors and all involved in the snow sport industry part with the Winter X Games (hopefully with medals in hand) and parade over to another winter event.

The Snow Sports Industries America trade show (SIA) has been around for 37 years and boasts the best in snow sports gear & equipment, technologies and branding opportunities. As an after party to the widely celebrated X Games, SIA has been taking place the following weekend. Unfortunately, this year, both the X Games and SIA trade show have been schedule for the very same weekend, January 28-31. To add to the butting-head snow sport events, the 2010 Winter Olympics will take place two weeks later on February 12.

With the X Games and SIA trade show happening the same weekend, they may want to start a promotional giveaway war to see who can draw more attendees. It's pretty clear that the champion event will be the 2010 Winter X Games because of the hype and their major broadcast on ESPN. However, without attending the SIA trade show, how can snow sport athletes, manufacturers and sponsors be prepared for the 2011 Winter X Games? The SIA has been the place to find the hottest gear and most innovative technologies for the snow sport world. They've been a haven for trade show giveaways and networking opportunities for athletes, sponsors and manufacturers, and they plan on keeping it that way.

With the Olympics only two weeks away from the X Games, many athletes will want to sit the X Games out to prevent any injuries and to pack in more training. This may be a benefit to SIA because those athletes and their crews will be readily available for the tradeshow. Still, most winter sport athletes will compete in the X Games and find the time to fly 3 1/2 hours away to the SIA trade show in the same weekend. The X does stand for extreme - and these athletes are going to prove it by heading to the Olympics right there after.

The amount of attendees and media attention outcome for each of the snow sport events has a pretty certain fate. The Bronze Medal goes to the Snow Sport Industries America trade show. The Winter X Games Snag the Silver Medal and in Zeus-like fashion, the Winter Olympics will most definitely take the Gold.

Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton

The American designer, Marc Jacobs, bought the golden era of the 1980s/90s New Age traveller back to fashion’s forefront in his spring/summer 2010 collection for Louis Vuitton, at the Paris prêt-a-porter season.
The collection, staged to a wild, music mix of the British girl band. The show was awash with influences as wide-ranging as the Navajo, utility clothing and the Wild West, to the chaotic dress code of early Madonna.

The front row line-up included the actresses Catherine Deneuve, Freida Pinto and Leighton Meester; Sophie Dahl and her fiancé, Jamie Cullum; the singers, Katy Perry and Alison Goldfrapp; and the British model, Daisy Lowe.
Jacobs, once known for starting shows up to two hours late, is now as precise a timekeeper as a Swiss watchmaker.

As the clock struck two-thirty in Paris, his show started on the dot, leaving several members of the audience scrambling for seats as the first model hit the catwalk, and latecomers cooling their high heels outside the doors.

His Louis Vuitton collection was one of the last in a hectic, nine-day schedule in Paris, featuring up to 12 shows a day. The season concludes on Thursday, with the Paris debut of the British designer, Giles Deacon, winner of the ANDAM 2009 prize worth €160,000.

Various Types of Trade Show Visitors

Visitors are the most important element of any exhibition. However, visitors are of different types. Some common types are as follows.

Free Ticket Fan: These people are more interested in free offers, demos and whatever there is on offer from the company. They are not at all potential customers. They love to collect free promotional products from the fair.

Private Agents: They work for rival companies and visit the exhibition to obtain possible information as well as business related secrets.

Vendors: A few visitors may visit an exhibition to capture the interest of the company, for their product or service, instead of buying.

Brochure collectors: These visitors will leave without buying, but will collect all the brochures, leaflets, reports and any other information that the exhibiting company has to offer.

Leaders of industry: Often, prominent industry leaders visit trade shows to ascertain the level of competition or check out the products on display.

Entertainment seekers: These people visit booths if there is entertainment on offer. There may be exclusively large number of people, who seek only entertainment.

Possible customers: Some big potential customers may visit your exhibit. There should be an organisation in place to deal with these visitors.

DoCoMo goes natural with wooden cell phones

NTT DoCoMo is experimenting with using compressed wooden cases for cell phones.
The Japanese operator showed off two prototype Touch Wood handsets, including one working model, that have cypress cases at the Ceatec exhibition in Chiba, Japan.

The wood used to make the Touch Wood prototypes comes from trees that are felled in forest-thinning operations, rather than being cut for commercial use. The felled trees are then chopped into blocks, which are then cut into the desired shape. The case is then compressed in a mold, using a technology developed by Olympus. The end result is a glossy case that is waterproof and resistant to wood-eating insects and mold, DoCoMo said.

Because each wooden block has a distinctive grain pattern, no two handset cases are exactly alike.
The working Touch Wood prototype on display at Ceatec is a slider design, with a haptic touchscreen that slides up to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and a 5.2-megapixel camera. DoCoMo also showed off a mockup of another touchscreen phone with a curved body that bears a passing resemblance to Apple's iPhone.

Whether or not these phones or other models with a wooden case ever reach the market remains to be seen. DoCoMo said no decision had yet been made on whether or not to make them into commercial products.

New gadgets, prototypes to debut next week in Japan

Japan's biggest electronics and gadgets show, Ceatec, runs all of next week and many new technologies and prototype gadgets are expected to be on show.

The first big news is expected when Toshiba unveils its first commercial LCD TV that includes the Cell multimedia processor, after showing a prototype of the television last year. Originally developed by Toshiba, IBM and Sony for use in the PlayStation 3 games console, the Cell is expected to bring functions like real-time upscaling and processing of recorded videos.

Panasonic will also focus on TV technology and showing a 50-inch plasma TV that can display images 3D. At the IFA electronics show in September the company said it planned to launch such a set next year, so Ceatec will provide more insight into what consumers can expect.

Sony is also pushing 3D and will use Ceatec to show a new video camera that can record 3D images through a single lens. The camera is aimed at content producers, not consumers, but the technology could eventually scale down into more compact cameras.

In the cell phone arena, NTT DoCoMo is planning to show a cell phone with a wooden rather than plastic case. The prototype phone was made in conjunction with Olympus, which has developed a method for wooden casing, and Sharp. The phone uses surplus cypress wood from trees culled during thinning operations to maintain healthy forests.

DoCoMo and its partners are also expected to show their progress in developing a cell-phone platform for future LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless services. The company is working with Panasonic, NEC and Fujitsu on development of a phone that can download data at up to 100M bps and upload at half that speed.
Meanwhile Fujitsu will show a new cell phone with a built-in golf-swing analyzer. The phone's sensors feed motion data to a 3D sensing program that analyzes the swing and then provides advice. Each swing can also be compared against past swings.

One of the hits from last year's Ceatec, Murata's unicycling robot, is due to make an appearance and show off a new trick. The latest version of the robot is capable of cycling
at about 3 times the speed of last year's model.

Nissan will also be at Ceatec showing off some of its latest research into advanced automotive IT systems. Specifically, the company plans to show off a technology that allows several cars to automatically follow a lead car. The futuristic system, which will be demonstrated in robot cars, could one day be used to allow cars to automatically move along roads in "trains" of vehicles with little input from the driver. The exhibition, which is now in its tenth year, attracted just under 200,000 visitors last year.
